History Behind USL Youth

Founded in 1999, Super Y is a nation-wide youth summer league operated by the United Soccer League (USL), which is the largest organization of elite soccer leagues in North America. Affiliated with US Soccer, the Super Y League contains the youth academies of Major League Soccer clubs, USL PRO clubs, Premier Development League and W-League clubs. Divisions within Super Y are organized geographically, and membership in the league is limited to only a few elite programs to ensure strong competition. The Super Y League also has its own ODP Identification Program that has opened countless doors for players to be identified for U.S. National Team Programs. The Super Y League provides a valuable platform for the most committed players to have the opportunity to continue to develop their play during the summer months.


It should be noted that Super Y teams are totally separate from teams that participate in the usual Fall, Winter and Spring schedule. All Super Y teams are formed to play together in the summer months only, with the exception of the North American Finals*, and usually consist of players from various club teams.


*Teams that receive a bid to the North American Finals (NAF) are required to attend. The finals typically take place in Florida in December.

The United Soccer League (USL) announced the launch of USL YOUTH (USLY). The new USLY brand is designed to replace the Super Y League brand. With their new platform, USL YOUTH will "elevate the youth player experience by inspiring, educating, and engaging the American soccer generation.” This move aligns the "USL’s youth soccer initiatives with the full USL ecosystem and completing the youth-to-pro pathway."

The Present & The Future

The cost of the Summer Super Y League is $550. This cost covers fields, insurance, coaching, league fees and referee fees, plus other administrative costs to run the program. It does not include travel costs (for away games) or uniform kit (tbd).


There will be an additional per player cost for any teams that qualify for the Super Y League North American Finals, which are held in mid-December in Florida.


Fee may be paid in full at the time of registration or in either two or three installments. If a player opts to pay in installments, the second and third (if applicable) payment will automatically be charged to a designated credit card.
